February 1, 2024

The University of Waterloo Math Contests offer a unique opportunity for students to showcase their mathematical problem-solving skills and compete against their peers on a global level. These contests are not only a fun way to challenge oneself but also serve as a valuable addition to one's academic profile.

It is with great pride that we announce the achievements of the students at Merrick Prep who participated in the Canadian Intermediate and Senior Mathematics Contests. The fact that five students from grades 9 and 10 and eleven students from grades 11 and 12 participated in these contests is a testament to the dedication and hard work of both the students and their teachers.

Jiho Choi and Hanyun (Sherry) Shan have brought great honor to Merrick Prep by achieving the top tier for their respective categories. Jiho Choi received a medal for being the top Merrick Prep student in the Canadian Intermediate Mathematics Contest and a certificate of Distinction for ranking in the top 22% of the 6522 students worldwide who participated. Hanyun (Sherry) Shan received the same honors for being the top Merrick Prep student in the Canadian Senior Mathematics Contest and ranking in the top 13% of the 9342 students worldwide who participated.

We would like to congratulate all the students who participated in the University of Waterloo Math Contests and wish them continued success in all their future academic endeavors. Well done!
