We are thrilled to share some exciting news about the future of our school and community. Fulford Academy and Merrick Preparatory School have joined forces to create a stronger and more comprehensive educational institution at the Merrick Preparatory School campus in Merrickville, and we couldn't be more excited! As of February 1, 2025, Merrick Preparatory School officially merged with Fulford Academy, resulting in a single name: Fulford Academy.
Students and staff from Fulford Academy have officially moved into the Merrickville campus on January 29th, 2025. Students then had a one-day break to get settled, followed by Orientation Day on January 31st. Our students have now started the second semester as of February 3rd, 2025.
As we diligently work to combine the best elements of both brands, we want to reassure parents that our senior students graduating this year will receive their diplomas as either Merrick Preparatory or Fulford Academy students, depending on their current enrollment. This will ensure that there is no impact on university applications, grades, or scholarships.
This merger is not just about physical expansion for Fulford Academy, but also about enriching the educational experience for everyone involved. Students will benefit from a wider array of courses and extracurricular activities, fostering a well-rounded education that prepares them for the future. Our dedicated staff and faculty are committed to maintaining the excellent standards of teaching and support that both schools are known for.
We believe that this union will bring about a vibrant community spirit, where students, parents, and teachers work together in a collaborative and inclusive environment. With a focus on innovation and excellence, we are poised to offer an unparalleled educational journey that inspires and empowers our students to reach their full potential.
A few things to note:
In this merger, Fulford Academy will honor all commitments made at both institutions, including class sizes, academic programs, and the continuation of existing agreements/contracts.
Our ESL support, OSSD academic programs, university prep and competitive sports teams will remain vital components of our school. As we merge, we will draw upon the strengths of both schools to enhance our curriculum and extracurricular activities, ultimately improving the experience for all our students.
Fulford Academy will provide a teacher-led study hall from 3:30 to 5 pm. Available for both day and boarding students who are looking for extra academic support, and or one on one time from their teachers.
Extracurricular activities like clubs and sports will be offered four days a week, from 3:30 to 5 pm, and students will be required to participate in study hall, sports, or clubs during that time.
Merrick Prep students can continue wearing their Merrick Prep uniforms for the rest of the year. In September, all students will transition to wearing the Fulford Academy uniform. The school's dress code remains the same.
Students will now have PA Days which are in line with the Upper Canada School Board (UCDSB).
Below is a combined list of our Advantages, now named the Fulford Advantage. The previous MPS Advantages rack card is not much different as both schools embody the same core values and vision.
Our team will continue to update you with material as we have it, along with keeping you informed of our branding merger and plans.
It is important to understand that this is not the closure of one school over another, but rather a merger of all of the best parts of both schools.
Fulford Academy will be offering Summer Camps and 4 Month Programs as well. Please bear with us as we work on these plans.
90% of all staff remains from both Merrick Preparatory School and Fulford Academy.
