In February, Ontario Grade 10 students wrote the Cayley math contest and 7,042 grade 11 students across Ontario wrote the Fermat math contest. Both contests were sponsored by the University of Waterloo and are recognized worldwide.
Seven students from Merrick Preparatory School voluntarily participated in the contest. Allen Wu, who wrote the Fermat test, scored in the top 3% of the province, earning him a Certificate of Distinction and a medal. Additionally, John Tu scored in the top 8% and Munyah Al Hamdani scored in the top 21%, earning each of them Certificates of Distinction. Marvin Wu, who participated in the Cayley Contest, scored in the top 12% and earned a certificate of Distinction and a medal.
